ABOUT

Hello!

ABOUT ME

I'm Leigh; a mum of three, a breastfeeding super-fan and an IBCLC based in Glasgow.

My path to lactation support began in 2019 following the birth of my little boy. Despite a challenging start to breastfeeding, my journey into first time motherhood was an incredibly positive one thanks to the overwhelming sense of community I had around me. I felt supported, validated and held. Thanks to this, I was able to work through our difficulties and achieve my goal of breastfeeding until natural term weaning.

It doesn't really matter to me HOW you choose to feed your baby, that's none of my business. And you'll certainly receive no judgement from me. All that matters to me is that you feel as supported and empowered as I did as you work towards achieving your goals. â€‹

WHAT IS AN IBCLC?

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a highly experienced, highly trained professional who specialises in breastfeeding, chestfeeding and lactation. .

IBCLCs provide expert assistance with breast and chestfeeding challenges, such as latch difficulties, milk supply issues, managing slow or low weight gain and much more. They also offer education and support to help ensure successful breastfeeding experiences.

IBCLCs must recertify every five years through continuing education and re-examination, maintaining their status as registered professionals. The term 'IBCLC' is a protected qualification, ensuring that only those who meet the stringent certification standards can use this title.

Services

As an IBCLC I can support you in a variety of ways. I am here to offer emotional and practical guidance, and provide you with the information and tools you may need to achieve your goals.

Antenatal Support

Prior to the birth of your baby I can offer antenatal education on what to expect from and how to prepare for your feeding journey.

I can support you to make a plan for any special circumstances you may have.

I also offer debriefs of previous feeding experiences.

Postnatal Support

In the post-partum period I can support with establishing breast or chest feeding, reassurance and settling in at home.

I can also support with a wide range of issues such as difficulty latching, pain when feeding, low milk supply, weight concerns, feeding plans and unsettled babies.

Ongoing Support

I can support with your feeding journey far beyond the immediate post-partum period. This could include introducing solids, returning to work, weaning from breastfeeding, introducing feeding boundaries,

feeding in pregnancy and tandem feeding.

Postnatal Consultation

If you are experiencing any challenges or difficulties with feeding, I can carry out a full feeding assessment and together we can make an appropriate plan using both an evidence-based and holistic approach.

All feeding consultations will include a written care plan/report and access to follow up support via WhatsApp for 2 weeks (messages will be answered within 24 hours, during my working hours).

I can support with nipple or breast pain, difficulty latching, sleepy baby, slow weight gain, unsettled baby/reflux, breast refusal, low milk supply, oversupply, relactation, combi-feeding, reducing top-ups, nipple shields - and more.

Holistic Postnatal Visit

A holistic session in the comfort of your own home following the arrival of your little one. I can offer a latch check, support with positioning and attachment, reassurance, confidence boosting, tips for feeding out and about, what to expect in the fourth trimester, emotional support... whatever you need!

If you are nervous about venturing out with your little one, and particularly about feeding in public, I can meet you at a local cafe or park or other venue where we can carry out most of the above! I will support you with positions for feeding outside of the home, boost your confidence and be your biggest cheerleader!

Beyond the Fourth Trimester

More and more of us are now breastfeeding far beyond the first few months, and our need for support doesn't end there either.

I can offer support with:

  • Introducing solids

  • Returning to work

  • Transitioning to childcare

  • Weaning from breastfeeding

I can also offer a debrief at the end of your journey. This may be helpful if you did not have the experience you hoped for, if you are experiencing breastfeeding grief or if you are having conflicting feelings around the direction of your journey.
